About Glenn

John H. Glenn High School was established in the fall of 1962, named in honor of one of America’s most endeared servicemen. Months later, he was the first astronaut to orbit the Earth in his capsule, Friendship 7, making three orbits, and returning to Earth as an American Hero. In his career, John H. Glenn served our country in the United States Marine Corp as a pilot. He was an engineer, businessman, politician and pioneer. His heart was in Science and he was a tireless advocate for science and health research. The Eagle, our mascot is the emblem of our nation. Eagles have been seen as being fiercely beautiful and proudly independent, symbolizing the strength and freedom of America.

60 years since opening, John Glenn High School and Southeast Academy High School (JGHS-SEA) are a comprehensive high school in the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District, currently serving 854 students (JGHS:697 students and SEA:156). At JGHS, we offer multiple pathways and programs including Engineering, Computer Science, Academy for Careers in Education, Arts Media production Pathway, Urban Farming/Horticulture Dual Enrollment Pathway, and AVID. Our students participate in AP courses, dual-enrollment offerings, and the academic and social emotional supports are abundant.

Eagle Pride is strong amongst the alumni and the school community. We have a saying, “Once an Eagle, Always an Eagle.”
